Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is constructed from many parts. The key parts that make up a forklift truck are the truck frame, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a forklift consists of a range of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are of equal importance because they work together to make the operation of the equipment possible. The next paragraphs describe several of the forklift components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or hurt the driver. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move up and downwards. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are various kinds of attachments which can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common kind of attachment. In addition, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These various attachments are very useful for transporting different types of loads.
